GIACOMO PUCCINI
Giacomo Puccini sends an autogrpah letter to his music publisher.
Autograph Letter Signed: "G. Puccini" in Italian on message portion of picture postcard, 5½x3½. Photograph is captioned in Italian: "A Greeting from Viareggio/Avenue Ugo Foscolo". Addressed by Puccini to: "Mr. M.G. Albinati, Casa Ricordi, Milan". Italian stamp affixed to upper right, postmarked Viareggio, Italy, October 8, 1916. Not translated, but with musical content mentioning a libretto. GIACOMO PUCCINI (1858-1924), the greatest Italian opera composer of his time, wrote a number of operas, including his three most famous works, La Bohème, Tosca and Madama Butterfly, while living at Torre Del Lago, the home he had purchased in 1891. Puccini and his family lived at Torre Del Lago until 1921, and the home became a museum after the death of Puccini's wife in 1930. GIULIO RICORDI, composer of salon music, discovered Puccini in Milan. The Ricordi family was a music publisher; Giulio's father was a friend of Verdi. When Giulio died in 1912, his son Tito, a pianist, became head of the business. This letter was written by Puccini to Mr. Albinati at the Ricordi publishing house. Fine condition.
