GIACOMO PUCCINI
He pens this signature on this autograph note in Italian!
Autograph Note Signed: "What man is that?/not sure/Giacomo Puccini/1913", 5½x3½.
Magazine photograph, 1½x1¾, affixed at left margin. Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924), the
greatest Italian opera composer of his time, is best known for La Bohème, Tosca and
Madama Butterfly. The year before he signed this autograph, Puccini's editor, Giulio Ricordi,
had died. In 1913, following differences with Ricordi's son, Tito, Puccini accepted a lucrative
offer to write for the Vienna Karltheater. He began working on La Rondine, which would
not be staged until March 27, 1917 in Monte Carlo. Soiled and lightly toned. Minor creases.
Worn at edges and corners. Otherwise, fine condition.
