Giacomo Puccini signs a sepia photograph of him wearing a suit and
tie smoking a cigarette.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To the beautiful Trin/with my
best/regards/from the affectionate/G. Puccini/N.Y. 1910" in Italian in red
pencil. Sepia, 5¾x7¾, taped to 7¾x10¼ (2 surfaces). Photographer's imprint at
lower left. Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924), the greatest Italian opera composer of
his time, is best known for La Bohème, Tosca and Madama
Butterfly. In 1907, he composed The Girl of the Golden West, a
very different sort of opera, set in California during the gold rush era, which
was successfully premiered at the New York Metropolitan Opera in 1910, the year
and city in which this photograph was signed. Lightly stained background.
¾x4¾-inch stain at upper left margin, else fine condition.
