The British poet sends his warm regards to a fan, signs name in black
ink
Typed letter signed: "Gilbert Frankau" in black ink. 1 page,
6¼x8. Knightsbridge, London, England. June 21, 1938. Addressed to Mrs. Z.E.
Peasgood of Essex, England. In full: "It really is note my custom to
send autographed photographs, but your letter is so charming and so encouraging
that I hope you will accept the one I am sending you herewith. Yours
sincerely". Gilbert Frankau (1884-1952) was a British author of numerous
poems, novels and short stories. Many of his poems and other works drew on his
experience as a veteran of trench warfare in France during World War I. (He
was involved in the horrific battles of Ypres and the Somme and later invalided
out for shell shock.) His mother Julia, writing as Frank Danby, and his
daughter, Pamela Frankau, were also successful writers. Normal mailing folds.
Slightly toned. Small toned stains throughout. Corners rounded. Otherwise, fine
condition.
