Photograph signed: "Gilbert Harding", in black felt tip, B/w 3½x5½. Gilbert Harding (1907-1960) was a British journalist and radio/television personality, known for his rather hot temper and random outbursts. Often called "the rudest man in Britain", Harding had several occupations during his life, but was best known for his appearances on the UK version of the popular game show What's My Line?, where he would often become annoyed with contestants or simply tell them that they were boring. His unkind demeanor made him insanely popular with British audiences, which at the time were used to civilized and posh personalities in entertainment, and gained him success for several years. However, the lonely Harding struggled with personal demons (including his closeted homosexuality), and was often unhappy in spite of his private generous efforts to charities and organizations. He died in 1960 after suffering an asthma attack. Signature smeared on 'Gilbert'. Slightly toned. Corners slightly worn. Slightly soiled on edges and corners. Otherwise, fine condition.
