GILBERT ROLAND
Sepia 11x14 image in open collar, inscribed to famed make-up artist Bud Westmore, the year they worked together on The Last of the Fast Guns
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To my dear amigo/Bud Westmore -/member of an/illustrious family./Gilbert Roland/1958". B/w 11x14. Gilbert Roland (1905-1994) played dashing leading men in both silent and talking films - his movie career spanned half a century. Originally trained as a bullfighter, he was the only genuine Mexican to portray the Cisco Kid on screen (in eleven films). He received two Golden Globe nominations as Best Supporting Actor, for The Bad and the Beautiful (1952) and Cheyenne Autumn (1964). Roland appeared in more than 100 films, The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923) being first, and Barbarosa (1982) being the last. George H. "Bud" Westmore (1918-1973), the second of three generations of famed Hollywood makeup artists, prepared actors for over 450 film and TV productions, including The Creature in the Black Lagoon. In 1958, Westmore was principal make-up artist for The Last of the Fast Guns, starring Roland, Jock Mahoney, Linda Cristal and Lorne Greene. Corners worn and creased. Lightly toned around edges. Signature lightly smeared but legible. Otherwise, Fine condition.
