First Day Cover honoring Douglas Fairbanks (Sr.), 20-cent stamp affixed, postmarked Denver, Colorado, May 23, 1984, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. The cachet shows Robin Hood with thrusting sword. ROLAND's movie career (1925-1982) included dashing leading man's roles in both silent and talking films. PAGET's film career (1948-1964) included many castings as a sensuous, exotic beauty. REINER, a versatile writer, director and comedian, worked with Sid Caesar and later produced and appeared in TV's Dick Van Dyke Show (1961-1966). ROMERO (1907-1994) was a stage and film star with roles as diverse as Cortez (The Captain From Castille, 1947) to "the Joker" on TV's Batman (1966-1968). AGAR (1921-2002), Shirley Temple's first husband, starred in war and Western films of the late 1940s and appeared often in science fiction movies thereafter. FAIRBANKS, JR. (1909-2000), the son of the stamp's honoree, was a movie producer and actor who appeared in over 75 films. NOLAN (1911-1998) made her film debut as Orson Welles' Lady MacBeth (1948) and made her final appearance as Robert Redford's mother in The Horse Whisperer (1998). Lightly soiled on verso (no show through). Fine condition.
