GILBERT THOMAS. ALS: "Gilbert Thomas.", 2p, 4½x7,
front and verso. Avenue House, Gidea Park, Essex, 1927 April 21. On
imprinted letterhead to Mr. Wilson. In full: "Very many thanks for
your very kind letter and for the most interesting magazine, the contents of
which do great credit alike to your pupils themselves and to your tuition. I
have always had a great admiration for the Warners' Educational Association, and
am honoured that some of my books should have been used in connection with
your lectures. You kindly ask if I can suggest any other volume of mine that
might appeal to your audience. I fancy that 'Things Big and Little'
(essays and sketches) might do so. This published in a leaf edition at 3/6
by Chapman & Hall, and, among other things, contains some [of] my
war-time experiences as a pacifist. 'Poems: 1912-1919', issued at 5/- G
Allen & [illegible], contains most of my earlier work in
verse. With many thanks for your kind interest, and all best wishes for your
work, I am, Yours sincerely". The works of English author Gilbert Oliver
Thomas (1891-1978) include poems such as "The Unseen Bridge" and
biographies, including William Cowper and the Eighteenth Century
(1935). Slightly soiled. Light show through of ink. Worn at lower blank corners.
Creased at lower left corner touching 4 words. Overall, fine condition.
