Price: $120.00
GILBERT THOMAS. ALS: "Gilbert Thomas.", 2p, 4½x7,
front and verso. Flatford, Meadway, Gidea Park, Essex, 1932 October 12.
To "My dear Charlie". In full: "Many thanks for your letter. I
was sorry not to answer it yesterday. It did not arrive till after I had gone to
London, and I was not home until after the evening post had been collected. We
are delighted to hear that you may be coming to town next week, and should be
most happy if you could arrange to spend two or three nights with us, though
not, if convenient to you, until after Tuesday night. Any nights after
that would suit us very well, and we do hope you will be able to manage several.
It would be very jolly to see you, and we should not treat you as a stranger. I
should get on with any necessary work, and you would full to use our home
as your headquarters for any business or excursions you wanted to fit in. Please
write and say that we may expect you - and the day and approximate time of
arrival. I will then write again. All best wishes, Yours ever". The works of
English author Gilbert Oliver Thomas (1891-1978) include poems
such as "The Unseen Bridge" and biographies, including William Cowper
and the Eighteenth Century (1935). Lightly creased at upper left blank
corner. Lightly soiled. Light show through of ink. Fine
condition.
