Ginger Rogers sends a letter of apology for not being able to attend a function.
Autograph Letter Signed: "Ginger Rogers". 1p, 7¼x10¾. Tampa, Florida, 1972 October 30. On Manger Motor Inn stationery. To Mr. Donald F. Smith, in full: "Wish I could come to the exhibition 'Tallulah from Mayfair to Manhattan' but I've got work to do-for J.C. Penney and-as they keep me rather busy I won't be in New York City for a few months. However-try me again. Am so sorry not to be there for that interesting evening in tribute to a great lady, Tallulah Bankhead. Warm good wishes". Rogers (1911-1995) was singing and dancing in vaudeville while still in her teens. A major film star of the 1930s and 1940s, she was usually sought for musicals and comedies, but she earned a Best Actress Oscar in the dramatic title role of Kitty Foyle (1940). Rogers is probably best remembered as the dance partner of Fred Astaire, with whom she starred in ten films. Staple holes at top. Otherwise, fine condition.
