GINGER ROGERS
Color-tinted lobby card for Top Hat, showing Rogers with dance partner Fred Astaire
Lobby Card inscribed and signed: "To Maureen/McNerney/Warmest good wishes/Ginger Rogers".
Color 10x8, mounted to 11x8½. Lobby card for the film musical Top Hat (1935). Ginger
Rogers (1911-1995) was singing and dancing in vaudeville while still in her teens. A major
film star of the 1930s and 1940s, she was usually sought for musicals and comedies, but she
earned a Best Actress Oscar in the dramatic title role of Kitty Foyle (1940). Rogers is
probably best remembered as the dance partner of Fred Astaire, with whom she starred in
ten films. Top Hat, considered one of the best Rogers/Astaire musicals, was nominated
for four Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Dance Direction (Hermes Pan) and Best Song
(Irving Berlin). Top Hat is honored with inclusion in the National Film Registry. The duo
danced to such Berlin classics as "Cheek to Cheek" and the title song. Surface creases not seen
head on. Otherwise, fine condition.
