A program for a performance of Italian Opera at the Royal Opera House in Rome, signed by the four Italian Opera stars on their bios within
Program signed: "Gino Mattera", "Kyra Vayne", "Agata Roselli", "Alberto Margheriti", 6 pages, 7½x9¾. Opera singer GINO MATTERA (1923-1960) was originally sent to study engineering at the University of Naples, but ended up pursuing his love of music, making his grand debut in Amico Fritz. He had a moderate success on stage, but is best remembered for his film career, twice appearing as Orpheus in two Hercules films (Hercules and Hercules Unchained). A late bloomer, the Russian-born KYRA VAYNE (1916-2001) didn't discover her singing abilities until she appeared in a Russian Orthodox church choir at 16. She broke into opera after singing with radio comedian Vic Olvier during World War II and performed from the 1940s to the 1970s. The last years of her career were filled with poverty and doors slamming shut in her face, and she eventually retired to become a secretary and then a ceramics restorer. But an Austrian label re-released some of her recordings in the late 1990s, and suddenly she found her audience. AGATA ROSELLI made her debut in 1944 at the Teatro dell'Opera, and went on to perform with Baniamino Gigli, Maria Caniglia, Carlo Tagliabure, and Tito Gobbi. She was the winner of the national concourse for bursaries with the Opera House of Rome and the Teatro Communale of Florence. ALBERTO MARGHERITI was a baritone, and winner of several honors, including First Prize of the operatic concourse of the M.A.C.I. He has toured across Austria, Inssbruck, Linz, and Salzburg. Fold in center. Light surface creases. Soiled. Tear in top margin. Faint stains across. Corners slightly worn and creased. Edges worn and frayed. Otherwise, fine condition.
