GIVE ME A SAILOR MOVIE CAST: BETTY GRABLE and JACK WHITING
Betty Grable and Jack Whiting sign a black and white publicity photograph of a scene from Give Me a Sailor.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To/Howard/Best wishes/Betty/Grable" and "To/Howard/Good Luck/Jack Whiting". B/w, 8x10. Movie still from the 1938 romantic comedy Give Me a Sailor, ©1938, Paramount Pictures Inc. Chosen by the GIs in World War II as their number one "pin-up girl", BETTY GRABLE (1916-1973) appeared in a series of musicals and dramas in the 1940s and early 1950s. Fox publicity insured her legs with Lloyds of London for one million dollars. She was married to trumpeter-bandleader Harry James from 1943 until they divorced in 1965. JACK WHITING (1901-1961) acted in six films in the 1930s, and later appeared in the television series The Marge and Gower Champion Show as Marge's father (1957). He also made a number of TV guest appearances. Interesting photograph showing cross bars at right. From a typed note on verso: "But look what happens when Jack kisses Betty Grable! His heart action starts leaping and thumping! The dark cross bars are the sound of his beating heart, and when run through a projection machine is translated into sound." Lightly creased. No show through of note on verso. Fine condition.
