GLADYS KNIGHT AND THE PIPS
All four members of the group sign a typed letter to someone collecting autographs for children.
Typed Letter signed: "William", "Edward", "Gladys" and "Bubba", 1 page, 8½x11. New York, N.Y., undated. To "Dear Bob", in full: "As we all have children of various ages, we can certainly appreciate the importance of some kind of inducement to do better at times, for our children tend to loose [sic] track of their goals, when something more exciting than good grades comes along. The Pips and I, gladly forward to you these autographed cards. [Items not included.] I am sorry, I cannot even begin to do a caricature, I tried, but to no avail. Thank you for writing. Sincerely". Gladys Knight and the Pips hit the top ten charts in 1961 with "Every Beat of My Heart," but it wasn't until they moved to Motown Records in 1966 that the group began to run off a string of big hits. These included "Friendship Train," "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" (original version), "If I Were Your Woman," and "Neither One of Us." Moving to Buddah Records, they scored their biggest hit ever, "Midnight Train to Georgia." The Pips consisted of Gladys' brother MERALD "BUBBA" KNIGHT, and two cousins WILLIAM GUEST and EDWARD PATTEN. Gladys Knight & the Pips won two 1973 Grammy Awards: Pop Duo/Group for "Neither One of Us" and R&B Duo/Group with Vocal for "Midnight Train to Georgia". The Pips have retired, but GLADYS KNIGHT continues performing and recording in the new millennium. Mailing fold, not near signature. Fine condition.
