Mail cover honoring the "American Legion/Air-Show/and/Dedication/Compton
Airways/Inc./Compton, Calif./April 2,/1933", three 3-cent stamps affixed,
postmarked Compton, Calif., April 2, 1933. At the age of 25, Gladys O'Donnell (1904-1973)
became the first licensed woman pilot in Long Beach,
California (1929). Over the next few years, she participated in air races,
winning often. O'Donnell was a charter member of The Ninety-Nines, the woman
pilots organization founded by Amelia Earhart. Notes on verso (unknown hand, no
show through). Fine condition.
