1989 Gladden Entertainment. SLATER earned his first favorable notice
starring opposite Sean Connery in The Name of the Rose (1986), but did
not become a star until he co-starred opposite Winona Ryder in the darkly
satirical Heathers (1989). Slater has maintained a film career
starring as a high school geek with a cool secret life in Pump Up the
Volume (1990), to the romantic Bed of Roses (1996), to high-voltage
actioners like Broken Arrow (1996), as a suicidal bookkeeper in Julian
Po and in the suspense thriller Hard Rain (1998). BAUER, whose
family fled Cuba early in the Castro era, won Golden Globe nominations as
Best Supporting Actor for Scarface (1983) and Drug Wars: the Camarena
Story (TV, 1990). He earned a Screen Actors Guild award for Best
Ensemble Performance as a drug kingpin in Traffic (2000). Fine
