GLENN FORD and EVELYN KEYES
Glenn Ford and Evelyn Keyes sign an album leaf.
Signatures: "Glenn Ford", and on verso "Evelyn
Keyes", 5½x4½ album leaf. Magazine photos affixed on both sides. Ink note
(unknown hand) on Ford side: "June 25 '47 Columbia", and on Keyes side: "June 25
'47 across St. Columbia's". After making his screen debut in 20th Century-Fox's
Heaven With a Barbed Wire Fence (1939), FORD (1916-2006) played
diverse roles, including dark characters (The Blackboard Jungle and
Ransom, both released in 1955), romantic leading men (Teahouse
of the August Moon, 1956; The Gazebo, 1959) and rugged western
heroes (The Desperados, 1943; The Sheepman, 1958;
Cimarron, 1960). In 1958, Ford was voted the number one male
box-office attraction, and remained popular long after the studio system
that "created" him had collapsed. Later in his career, he appeared on television
as well as appearing in feature films, including Superman: The Movie
(1978). KEYES (1919-2008) played the eternally jilted Suellen O'Hara in
Gone With the Wind (1939). Some of her other notable works include
Face Behind the Mask (1941), Here Comes Mr. Jordan (1941) and
1947's Mating of Millie. Her husbands included Charles Vidor
(1943-1945), John Huston (1946-1950) and Artie Shaw (1957-1985). Lightly
soiled. Each signature shows through lightly. Otherwise, fine
condition.
