RAY EBERLE
B/w publicity photo by James de Kriegsmann of big band vocalist and
leader Ray Eberle in a checked jacket and tie and signed with "All My Very
Best Wishes". This photo was taken after Eberle had left the Glenn Miller
Orchestra and founded his own band.
Inscribed photograph signed "To Frank/All My Very/Best
Wishes/Ray Eberle" in blue ink. B/w, 8x10 overall, 7½x8½ image, one
surface. Photo by James de Kriegsmann of New York and General Artists
Corporation. Captioned: "RAY EBERLE/and his Orchestra". Eberle
(1919-1979, born in Mechanicville, New York) was a big band vocalist who
sang with the Glenn Miller Orchestra in the late 1930s and early 1940s.
His hits with the band include Moonlight Serenade (1939), Stairway
to the Stars (1939), It's a Blue World (1940), The Nearness of
You (1940), Fools Rush In (1940), A Nightingale Sang in
Berkeley Square (1940), Imagination (1940) and Skylark
(1942). After leaving Glenn Miller's band, he sang with Gene Krupa and
appeared in several movies. After serving in the military, he formed his own
band in 1945, which specialized in sweet dance material and light pop,
especially the tunes of Glenn Miller. After this band folded, he joined Tex
Beneke's Glenn Miller Orchestra before organizing a new band, which played the
nightclub circuit until 1978. Lightly toned, creased and bowed. Pen skipped
while writing signature, which is legible. Otherwise in fine
condition.
