Third Person Autograph Document signed: "Professor Seaborg", 1 lined page, 8½x11. In full, with additions and deletions in his own hand: "Professor Seaborg is a pioneer in the field of nuclear chemistry investigator in nuclear chemistry, a field in which he has conducted research for nearly fifty years. Some Many of the <more than 100> radioactive isotopes that he and his coworkers have discovered have found <widespread> practical applications in medicine, agriculture, industry and space exploration. He is the co-discoverer of ten transuranium elements and the author of the 'actinide' concept for placing the heaviest elements in the periodic table. He is the author of almost 300 scientific papers and is presently conducting research in the field of heavier nuclear reactions." Seaborg (1912-1999) won a 1951 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work as co-discoverer of elements #94 Plutonium (in 1941), #95 Americium, #96 Curium, #97 Berkelium and #98 Californium. Later, he played a part in creating elements #99 Einsteinium, #100 Fermium, #101 Mendelevium and #102 Nobelium. In 1994, a new element (#106 Seaborgium) was named after him, the first time the honor has been bestowed upon a living person. Seaborg worked on the Manhattan Project developing the atomic bomb, but signed a letter to President Truman urging that the bomb be dropped on a barren island as a demonstration. He chaired the Atomic Energy Commission (1961-1971) and helped negotiate the nuclear test ban treaty of 1963. He advised every President from Truman to Clinton. Bottom left corner torn.
