The actress signed this document in 1952 in order to discharge Famous Artists Corporation as her agent. She signed this during a dry spell in her movie career, when she had only one movie appearance in two years
Document Signed: "Gloria DeHaven". 1 page, 8¼x11, carbon copy, on thin paper. Oct. 20, 1952. Addressed to Famous Artists Corporation, New York City. DeHaven signed and sent this document to Famous Artists to discharge them as her agent and terminate her exclusive SAG (Screen Actors Guild) contract with them, dated June 5, 1950. She may have had good reason to drop Famous Artists as her agent. She appeared a slew of movies between 1948 and 1950, but had only one movie acting credit in 1951 - a starring role in the Howard Hughes musical Two Tickets to Broadway - and none in 1952. Gloria DeHaven (1925-2016) was a band vocalist in film musicals such as Best Foot Forward (1943) and Summer Holiday (1948). She gradually moved into acting, emerging as a star in Summer Stock(1950) andThe Doctor and the Girl(1949).These films appeared set to rocket her to stardom: she could sing and she could act, making her a great fit for any role. However, she gradually turned to television in the 1950s, making guest appearances in many different shows. When the popularity of film musicals waned, DeHaven remained active as a nightclub and summer stock performer and made television appearances for decades, most prominently inMary Hartman, Mary Hartman(1976-1977) and the short-lived Nakia (1974). She re-entered the feature film industry in Out to Sea (1997) nearly 50 years later, starring opposite Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. Lightly toned, creased and rippled. Two binder holes and staple holes in top edge. Tears in top and right edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
