The actress writes a letter of thanks for her Theatre World Award to John Willis, Editor of Theatre World
Autograph letter signed: "Gloria Hodes", in blue ink, 9¾x5¾ open flat, 4¾x5¾. Included is the original mailing envelope. May 27, 1977. In full: "Dear Mr. Willis - Thank you! It was such an honor, + always will be, for my having been chosen to receive the Theatre World Award. I'm so sorry I had to leave for the Theatre without thanking you in person. I feel very badly about that. I will always cherish that day with great pride, and may your life continue to be filled with the wonderful spirit and gracious you so beautifully embody. Thank you deeply". Post script: "My pics will come within the week". Stage actress Gloria Hodes is best known for her role as "Bertie" in the off-Broadway play The Club (1976) for which she won a Theatre World Award for the following year. Her original Broadway debut was in Gantry (1970), and she also appeared in the original production of Me and My Girl (1986). John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Corners slightly worn and creased. Fine condition.
