Inscribed photograph signed: "Gloria/ Steinem" in black ink. B/w, 8x10. Gloria Steinem (b. 1934) is an American journalist, feminist and social and political activist. In the late 1960's and 1970's she became nationally recognized as a spokeswoman for the women's liberation movement. A prominent political figure she has founded and co-founded groups like the Woman's Action Alliance, Coalition of Labor Union Women, Choice USA and the National Women's Political Caucus. Active in the civil rights movement she worked alongside leaders like Coretta Scott King and Cesar Chavez and was an activist for gay rights and against the Vietnam War. A journalist, she wrote for New York magazine and co-founded the feminist themed Ms. Magazine and was featured in Time Magazine with her essay on a utopia of equality titled What It Would Be Like If Women Win. She has been an outspoken advocate on issues like reproductive freedom, pornography, female genital mutilation, same-sex marriage and Transsexualism. Steinem has written several books such as Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions (1983), Revolution from Within (1992) and Doing Sixty and Seventy (2006). Ink notes on verso. Fine condition.
