GLORIA STUART
Large 11x13¾ publicity profile shot of Stuart dressed in a dark veil, signed in white ink on bottom margin
Photograph signed: "Gloria Stuart", in white ink, B/w 11x13¾. Gloria Stuart (1910-2010), glamorous blonde leading lady of the 1930s, retired in the 1940s to become a successful artist and book illustrator, but returned to acting in the 1970s. She appeared in such memorable films as James Whale's The Old Dark House (1932) and The Invisible Man (as title character Claude Raines' wife, 1933). From 1936 on, she appeared in John Ford's Prisoner of Shark Island (1936), the Shirley Temple films Poor Little Rich Girl (1936) and Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm (1938), and the Ritz Brothers version of The Three Musketeers (1939). Stuart was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as the centenarian Rose Dawson in Titanic (1997). After the Oscar nomination, Stuart quipped that her high school year book had named her most likely to succeed, but she hadn't expected it to take so long! Stuart lived to be a centenarian, just like Rose Dawson. Corners lightly worn and heavily creased. Slightly toned. Slightly soiled on edges. Slight creases on edges. Photograph info attached on verso. Light surface creases across. Stain on center bottom margin. Otherwise, fine condition.
