In the 1920s, GLORIA SWANSON (1897-1983) was one of the reigning queens of the silent screen. She was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actress for Sadie Thompson (1928), The Trespasser (1929) and Sunset Boulevard (1950). Swanson left Paramount in 1926 and, bankrolled by Joseph P. Kennedy, produced her own films. She retired in 1934, but made her first comeback in Father Takes a Wife (1941). She then made a picture in Italy in 1956, Mio Figlio Nerone (Nero's Mistress), a failure. Her third comeback was in 1971 on Broadway in Butterflies Are Free. Four years later, she played a passenger aboard a doomed 747 in Airport 75. Actress MARY MARTIN (1913-1990) won Tony Awards for Best Actress for South Pacific (1950), Peter Pan (1955) and The Sound of Music (1960), and she was nominated a fourth time for I Do! I Do! (1967). Martin also won a special Tony Award for the national tour of Annie Get Your Gun (1948). She reprised her most famous role, the title character in Peter Pan, for television. Martin was married to Richard Halliday, who produced her Peter Pan and Sound of Music, from 1940 until his death in 1973. She is the mother of actors Heller Halliday and, by a previous marriage, Larry Hagman. SHIRL THOMAS appeared on Broadway in Banjo Eyes (1941-1942), and she was a replacement performer in Something for the Boys, which ran on the Great White Way from January 1943-January 1944. Twelve signatures in all. Worthy of further research. Lightly creased. Slightly soiled. Minor show through of writing. Irregular left edge from removal from bound book. Overall, fine condition.
