GOLDFINGER MOVIE CAST: SEAN CONNERY and HONOR BLACKMAN
Shown in a promotional still for the film. Blackman has added her character name, "Pussy Galore," to her signature (a deliberate move on her part to protest censorship).
Photograph signed: "Best Wishes/Sean Connery", "Honor Blackman/as Pussy Galore". Color, 10x8. Shown as James Bond and Pussy Galore in a captioned movie still from Goldfinger. Goldfinger (1964), the third James Bond film and the third starring Connery as the MI6 agent, was a critical as well as a financial success, and the first Bond movie to win an Academy Award. Blackman played the leader of a team of female pilots, The Flying Circus, vital to villain Auric Goldfinger's intended assault on Fort Knox. Although Blackman's character name got past the movie censors, it was banned from promotional materials for the movie, so Blackman took delight in using it as often as possible during promotional tours. Scottish actor SEAN CONNERY (b. 1930) achieved stardom as the movie screen's first James Bond in Dr. No. (1962), followed by six more appearances as the now-famous agent. He has aged gracefully, earning a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for The Untouchables (1987), and starring in such vehicles as The Man Who Would Be King (1975), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), The Hunt for Red October (1990), The Rock (1996), Entrapment (1999) and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003). Connery appeared on TV during the last British Parliamentary elections, promoting the Scottish Nationalist Party. British actress HONOR BLACKMAN (b. 1925) realized major stardom in 1962, when she was cast as leather-clad karate expert Cathy Gale in the British TV adventure series The Avengers (until recently, U.S. audiences were permitted to see only The Avengers episodes featuring Blackman's successors, Diana Rigg and Linda Thorson). International stardom ensued when Blackman was seen in another martial-arts gig as the gloriously adept Pussy Galore in Goldfinger (1964). She has played a wide variety of roles since, with special emphasis on droll comedy. Blackman, who refused a CBE honor in 2003, advocates abolishing the British monarchy and establishing a republic.
