Directed by Kevin Connor, the film about Goliath, an ocean liner sunk by a German U-boat during WWII, was a ratings success. MARK HARMON (born in 1951), who starred as oceanographer Peter Cabot, made his film debut in 1978's Comes a Horseman, but has been appearing on TV since 1976. The son of football great Tom Harmon and husband of actress Pam Dawber, Harmon appeared in the TV series Flamingo Road, Moonlighting and St. Elsewhere. His film credits include Beyond the Poseidon Adventure (1979) and Freaky Friday (2003). In 2001, twenty years after making Goliath Awaits, CHRISTOPHER LEE (1922-2015), who played John MacKenzie, made the first of three appearances as Saruman, chief of all wizards, in the first film in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The next year, the 80-year-old actor, who is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the international star with the most film and television credits (nearly 300), was brandishing a light saber in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones. Lee, originally known for his horror films, including The Curse of Frankenstein (1958), The Horror of Dracula (1958) and The Mummy (1959), also played Sherlock Holmes on the big screen (from 1961) and starred in the Fu Manchu film series. Canadian actor DUNCAN REGEHR (born in 1954), who played Paul Ryker, had his big breakthrough four years after Goliath Awaits as Errol Flynn in the made-for-TV film, My Wicked Ways, based on the swashbuckler's biography. Regehr also appeared in the TV series V (1984-1985) and the cable series Zorro (1990), and won acclaim for his performance as Sheriff Pat Garrett in the TNT film, Gore Vidal's Billy the Kid. JOHN RATZENBERGER, born in Connecticut in 1947, who played Bill Sweeney, made his first screen appearances in British-based productions. In 1982, the year after making Goliath Awaits, Ratzenberger, who had read for the role of "Norm" on Cheers, spontaneously created Cliff Clavin, the role he would play for ten years on the popular sitcom. The actor has also lent his voice to the animated films Toy Story (1995) and Toy Story 2 (1999), A Bug's Life (1998), Monsters, Inc. (2001) and Finding Nemo (2003). Master impressionist and comedian FRANK GORSHIN (1933-2005), who played Dan Wesker in this film, is perhaps best known as "The Riddler" on the 1966 Batman TV series. A frequent guest on TV comedies, dramas and variety shows, character actor Gorshin's turned in impressive performances in Meteor Man (1993) and 12 Monkeys (1996). Stage and screen actor ROBERT FORSTER (1941-2019), who was Commander Jeff Selkirk in this film, had appeared in Alligator in 1980. Nominated for a 1997 Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for Jackie Brown, Forster also appeared in a number of other feature films, including The Black Hole (1979), Delta Force (1986), Me, Myself & Irene (2000) and Mulholland Drive (2001), and he also starred in the short-lived TV series Banyon (1972) and Nakia (1974). British actor HEDLEY MATTINGLY (1915-1998) was primarily a television actor, although he made occasional (unbilled) appearances in feature films, including The Thrill of It All (1963, his debut), King Rat (1965), Lost Horizon (1973) and All of Me (1984). EMMA SAMMS, born in London in 1960, who played Lea McKenzie in Goliath Awaits, made her American TV debut on General Hospital. She later appeared on Dynasty, The Colbys and Models Inc. and made a number of made-for-television films (Goliath Awaits was her second). Two items.
