GOMER PYLE, U.S.M.C
Black and white publicity photograph of cast from Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.
Photograph signed: "Jim Nabors" and "Barbara Stuart/'Miss Bunny'". B/w, 8x10. Also pictured is Frank Sutton (Sergeant Vince Carter), who did not sign. Multitalented Jim Nabors shot to fame after his one-time guest shot as bumbling gas station attendant Gomer Pyle on The Andy Griffith Show was so popular with audiences that he was signed for the 1963-1964 season. After "Gomer" joined the Marines, he got his own show, Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. (1964-1969), which ranked in the Nielsen "Top 10" in each of its five seasons. In 1964, Nabors first showed off his baritone voice on national TV on The Danny Kaye Show. He went on to record 28 albums, racking up five gold and one platinum record, and became a popular entertainer on the nightclub circuit. After becoming a permanent resident of Hawaii, Nabors starred in "The Jim Nabors Polynesian Extravaganza" at the Hilton Hawaiian Village for two years before returning to touring. Nabors also appeared in the feature films The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982), Stroker Ace (1983) and The Cannonball Run II (1984), and the 1985 made-for-TV reunion movie, Return to Mayberry. Barbara Stuart (1930-2011) played girlfriend Bunny on Gomer Pyle - USMC (1964), and was cast in three other series: Pete and Gladys (1960-1961), The McLean Stevenson Show (1976-1977) and Our Family Honor (1985-1986). She appeared in occasional films (Airplane!, 1980) and guest starred on television for nearly half a century. Fine condition.
