Inscribed photograph signed "To Saul/ sincerely/Googie
Withers". B/w 8x10. British actress Withers, born in 1917 with
the perfectly good name of Georgette, appeared in over 60 movies and TV shows
between 1935 and 1996, including a recurring role as prison governess Faye
Boswell ob Within These Walls (1974-1975). The convent-educated Withers
began acting professionally at age 12 as a chorus singer and landed her first
film role in 1935's Windfall. She enjoyed her greatest popularity
during the 1940s, when she specialized in playing velvet-clawed harpies and had
numerous starring roles in films like On Approval (1944), Pink
String and Sealing Wax (1946) and It Always Rains on Sunday (1948).
Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New York business man by day, pursued his
love of film and theatre in the evening, making friends with many celebrities.
While other autograph seekers offered album leaves, Goodman presented stars
with snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to sign in fountain pen. Corners
worn and creased. Lightly toned around edges. Otherwise, Fine
condition.
