GORDON CONNELL
The actor writes to John Willis of Theater World in regard to a delayed response for photograph submission.
Autograph Letter Signed: "Gordon Connell" 1 page. 8¾ x 10. June 2, 1973. In Full: "Dear Mr. Willis, Enclosed please find current photo portrait (8"x10") {Item not enclosed}This is indeed a belated response to your request, and I hope not too late to be of use to you. Sincerely." Gordon Connell (b.1923) began his theatrical career by performing in San Francisco, California night clubs like the The Purple Onion and The Hungry I, making his Broadway debut in Subways Are For Sleeping (1962), and also performing in the Tony Award winning Hello, Dolly! (1964-1970), Lysistrata (1972), The Human Comedy (1984), and Big River (1985-1987). Connell also made several television appearances on The Jeffersons, The Incredible Hulk, reoccurring roles on The Love Boat, and later Law and Order as well as Sex and the City. Gordon Connell's only movie role was in Roman Polanski's critically acclaimed Rosemary's Baby. John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Lightly creased at bottom left and right corners. Slight creasing at top left corner. Lightly toned. Traces of adhesive from binding at top of letter. Otherwise, fine condition.
