GORDON GRANT
Maritime painter Gordon Grant wrote this letter on his monogrammed stationery in 1931 to say that he would send prints to a Society of American Etchers exhibition.
Autograph letter signed "Gordon Grant". 1 page, 8½x11, on Grant's monogrammed stationery. Oct. 8, 1931. In full: "Dear Mr. Cronyn Two days ago I wrote you regarding the approaching exhibition of the Society of American Etchers but sent my letter to your old address. In case you have not received it I want to let you know that I am sending prints myself. Many thanks for your offer I am very truly yours". Grant (1875-1962) was an American painter. He's probably best known for his maritime pictures, in particular of sailing ships. He was also one of many who lobbied to have the heavy frigate USS Constitution - "Old Ironsides" - be designated a national monument. In 1926, he offered prints of his painting of the USS Constitution to help raise money to preserve her; thousands were sold. Folds and creases through signature. Staple holes at upper margin. Mounting remnants on verso (no show-through). Otherwise in fine condition.
