In full: "Gentlemen Yesterday I left a holograph of one of my water colors for the Dec 2nd Issue but omitted to say that I want an ad to appear in the same number. -One inch deep - the same as last year. GORDON GRANT Water Colors Grand Central St. Galleries 15 Vanderbilt Ave. New York Nov 27 to Dec 15 Very truly". Grant (1875-1962) was an American painter. He's probably best known for his maritime pictures, in particular of sailing ships. He was also one of many who lobbied to have the heavy frigate USS Constitution - "Old Ironsides" - be designated a national monument. In 1926, he offered prints of his painting of the USS Constitution to help raise money to preserve her; thousands were sold. Folds and creases through signature. Sheet affixed to verso with light show-through that touches signature and handwriting. Otherwise in fine condition.
