ALF LANDON
He signs a typed letter (1953), making arrangements for a TV appearance
Typed Letter signed: "Alf M. Landon", 1 page, 7¼ x 10½. Topeka, Kansas, 1953 October 5. On personal letterhead to Ken Murray, c/o Edgar Bergen-Ken Murray Productions, Hollywood, California. In full: "Answering your letter of September 26, any date that fits your schedule will be satisfactory with me for the fifteen minute television series referred to in your letter. I am leaving for New York in a few minutes and will be back Friday night. Outside of that trip, I can fit my plans to yours. I will be glad to give you and Mr. Bergen a luncheon or dinner if you will let me know what your schedule is. I thought possibly you might want to meet some of the newspapermen and radio people here. With kindest regards, Sincerely". Alfred M. Landon (1887-1987), Governor of Kansas from 1933-1937, was the 1936 Republican candidate for President, losing in a landslide to President Franklin Roosevelt by 523-8 electoral votes, carrying only Maine and Vermont. Landon, who made his fortune in the oil industry, was a moderate Republican who declined FDR's offer of a post in his Cabinet because Roosevelt wouldn't decline to seek a third term. His daughter, Nancy Landon Kassebaum, represented Kansas in the U.S. Senate for three terms (1979-1997). Actor and vaudeville performer Ken Sanders (1903-1988) had a variety program on radio and early TV (CBS 1950-1953). Normal mailing folds. Pinhead-size stain near left edge. Accompanied by the original typed envelope. Fine condition.
