Typed Letter signed: "Arch A. Moore Jr." as Governor, 1p, 7¼x10½. Charleston, West Virginia, 1973 November 26. On official letterhead to Danny Franklin, Phoenix, Arizona. In full: "Thank you for your letter, and I very much appreciated your kind comments and compliments regarding my administration. Please know that I will be more than happy to send you an autographed photograph, and one should be arriving soon under separate cover. [not included] It was gratifying to know that you enjoyed your travels through the Mountain State and I hope you will have an opportunity to return soon. Sincerely". Arch a. Moore, Jr., an army veteran of World War II, was severely wounded in combat in Germany. Moore represented West Virginia as a Republican in the US Congress (1957-1969) and became that state's first person to serve three terms as Governor (1969-1977, 1985-1989). He lost bids for the office in 1980 and 1988. His accomplishments as Governor included active efforts to improve the state's highways. After his final term as Governor, Moore was convicted of taking bribe's from a coal executive and served three years in prison. His daughter, Shelley Moore Capito, the only Republican in the states Congressional delegation was elected to her fourth term in the US House in 2006. Horizontal mailing fold crosses "J" of signature. Overall, fine condition.
