Drawn on the account of Edison Botanic Research Corporation at Savings

the 50th anniversary of the incandescent lamp, which Charles Edison's father,
Thomas Alva Edison, had invented on October 21, 1879. During the time period of
this check (1927-1931), the elder Edison, who founded the Botanic Research
Corp., was endeavoring to find a source for rubber from domestic plants. His
laboratory for such was in Florida. Shortly before his death on October 18,
1931, his laboratory developed vulcanized rubber from goldenrods. Charles, the
first son of Edison's second wife, Mina Miller, had been named President of
Thomas A. Edison, Incorporated in 1927. In 1945, following public service as
Assistant Secretary of the Navy (1937-1939), Secretary of the Navy (1939-1940)
and Governor of New Jersey (1941-1944), he resumed direction of the Edison
Industries. Circular cancellation holes touch the "J" in Miller's signature.
Light show through of bank stamp on verso just touches the "n" in Edison. Fine
condition.
