white photo
Photograph signed: "Dan Moore" in black ink (beneath photo), b/w, 6x7½ image affixed to a
piece of card stock to an overall size of 8x10. Daniel Killian Moore (1906-1986) was the
66th Governor of the State of North Carolina. After serving in the U.S. Army during World
War II, Moore worked as a North Carolina Superior Court judge from 1948 to 1958. He
was appointed Governor in 1964. Later, after serving one term as governor (North Carolina
governors were not then eligible to be re-elected), Moore's successor, Governor Robert W.
Scott, appointed him to the North Carolina Supreme Court, the first governor of North
Carolina to be so honored. He served on the court from November 20, 1969 until
December 31, 1978. At the Democratic National Convention of 1968, Moore received 17½
votes for President on the first ballot from four southern states. Faint corner creases.
