card, 5½x3¼. 4-cent imprinted postage, postmarked Phoenix, Arizona, March 29,
1966. Typed address on front to Danny Franklin, Sunnyslope, Arizona.
Begins: "Dear Danny". In full: "I deem it a great honor
to be included in your autograph Collection You are a good friend". At lower
margin, Johnson has written the date: "March 28 1966". Edwin C. Johnson
(1884-1970) is best known as a Democratic U.S. Senator from Colorado
(1937-1955). His speech on the Senate floor criticizing the extra-marital
affair of actress Ingrid Bergman with Italian director Roberto Rossellini
created a furor, causing the actress to flee to Europe before returning in
the 1956 film, Anastasia. Johnson also served as Lieutenant
Governor (1931-1933) and Governor of Colorado (1933-1937 and
1955-1957). Slightly creased at corners. Slightly shaded at right margin. Light
postal markings touch one word and the "2" of date. Overall, fine
condition.
