EVAN BAYH and FRANK O'BANNON
A 1988 pamphlet for Indiana Democrats, signed by Governors Evan Bayh and Frank O'Bannon. Extremely rare!
Pamphlet signed: "Evan Bayh", "Frank O'Bannon", in felt tip, closed 3½x8½, open 14x8½. Pamphlet for Indian Democrats of 1988, titled "New Directions". EVAN BAYH (b. 1955), the son of former Indiana Senator and Presidential candidate Birch Bayh, was Governor of Indiana (1989-1997) before being elected to the US Senate in 1999 by the highest percentage ever obtained by a Democrat running for Senate from Indiana (64%). A centrist Democrat, Bayh chaired the Democratic Leadership Council (2001-2005), and is a leader of the Senate Centrist Coalition, a bloc of Republican and Democratic swing voters. He sits on several of the Senate's most powerful committees, including Armed Services, Banking, Energy, and the Select Committee on Intelligence. FRANK O'BANNON (1930-2003) was the 47th Governor of Indiana from 1997 to 2003, previously serving as Lieutenant Governor under Evan Bayh. Hailing from a family of politicians, O'Bannon's fared well in politics, serving in Indiana state senate before making the jump to Lieutenant Governor and then Governor. The beginning of his Governor career proved extremely popular, being able to cut taxes and easily create more help to the needy with Indiana's surplus budget. However, after the September 2001 terrorist attacks, Indiana suffered as did much of the country, with jobs being loss, social services being cut, and tax revenue being dropped. O'Bannon suffered a massive stroke in 2003 while in office, passing away a few days later. Corners slightly worn. Slightly soiled on some pages. Fine condition.
