Typed letter signed: "Everett Lake", as Governor of Connecticut, in black ink. 1 page, 7¼x9¾. Hartford, Connecticut, September 7, 1922. On his gubernatorial letterhead at the State of Connecticut, Executive Chambers, to "My dear Whit" C.B. Whittelsey, Hartford, Connecticut, "I do not known whether you desire the autograph mentioned in your letter of August 24th at the bottom of a letter or upon a card with the State seal attached, which is the way we usually send them out. However, I shall send this note on our prettiest State stationery and enclose in it one of the cards bearing the state Seal so that you can use either for your collections [items not included]. With very best wishes, I am, Very sincerely yours,". Everett Lake (1871-1948) was an American Republican politician who served as the 67th Governor of Connecticut from 1921 to 1923. He also served in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1903 to 1905 and the Connecticut State Senate from 1905 to 1907. During his tenure as Governor he passed a bill that disallowed children to work more than 8 hours in a day. A Harvard University graduate, Lake made his fortunes working for his father's business, the Hartford Lumber Company, serving as president from 1900 to 1939. Normal mailing folds.
