George Nigh was born in McAlester, Oklahoma on June 9, 1927. A graduate
of East Central State College, he served on the Oklahoma House of
Representatives from 1951-1959. At age 31, he become the youngest lieutenant
governor of Oklahoma and served in that position from 1959 to 1963. Nigh
spent another 12 years as lieutenant governor (1967-1979) before becoming the
22nd Governor of Oklahoma (1979-1987). He later served as
President of the University of Central Oklahoma from 1992 to 1997. Normal
