signs mount in black ink
Photograph Mount inscribed and signed: "Best Wishes to/Danny
Franklin/Sincerely/Haydon Burns". Color, 10¾x14 overall, image 8x10 (two
surfaces). William Haydon Burns (1912-1987) was Governor of Florida from
1965-1967. He left office as the first Democratic Governor in the state's
history to be succeeded by a Republican (Claude Kirk). A businessman and
veteran of WWII, Burns had previously served as Mayor of Jacksonville,
Florida (1949-1965). During his tenure as Mayor, Burns was President of
the U.S. Conference of Mayors, President of the Florida League of
Municipalities and a delegate to the International Congress of
Municipalities. He made an unsuccessful attempt to be re-elected as Mayor in
1971. Minor crease at upper left background of photograph, which is taped to
mount on verso. Mount is lightly creased at lower left and upper right corners
and is lightly soiled. Overall, fine condition.
