Proclamation signed "Herbert H Lehman" as Governor of New York and "Joseph J Canavan" as Secretary to the Governor. Black ink notations at bottom of page in unknown hand. 2 pages, 6½x9 with 3-inch diameter gold-colored State of New York seal on page 2. Oct. 23, 1934. Pages 3 and 4 from a proclamation declaring Oct. 27, 1934 as Navy Day. Herbert H. Lehman (1878-1963) the investment banker (Lehman Brothers) and philanthropist, served as New York Lieutenant Governor (1928-1932), Governor (1932-1942) and U.S. Senator (1949-1957). Lehman also served as Director General of the U.N. Relief and Rehabilitation Agency (1943-1946) and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom (posthumously) in 1963. Lightly toned and creased. Canavan's signature is lightly smeared ion places but legible. Otherwise in fine condition.
