Typed letter signed: "Hebert H. Lehman" in blue ink. 1 page, 8x10½. Written on personal U.S. Senate letterhead. December 16, 1949. Washington, D.C. In full: "Dar Mr. Berman: In response to your request of November 26th, I have communicated with the Chairman of the Atomic Energy commission in connection with the inquiry you have mad. As soon as a reply is received, I will advise you further. Yours very sincerely". Herbert H. Lehman (1878-1963) the investment banker (Lehman Brothers) and philanthropist, served as New York Lieutenant Governor (1928-1932), Governor (1932-1942) and U.S. Senator (1949-1957). Lehman also served as Director General of the U.N. Relief and Rehabilitation Agency (1943-1946) and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom (posthumously) in 1963. From the collection Ralph Errington Ward (1926-2009) a fighter pilot and squadron commander in the China-Burma-India Theater of World War II. Ward became President and CEO of Cheseborough-Ponds, Inc., transforming the cosmetics firm into a major home product conglomerate. Normal mailing folds. Corners and edges slightly creased and worn. Light surface creases. Ink note in top left corner in unknown hand. Toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
