Hulett Carlson Smith (b. 1918), the son of U.S. Congressman Joseph Luther Smith
(1880-1962), was the Democratic Governor of West Virginia from 1965-1969. A veteran
of WWII and a businessman, Smith had previously served for twelve years on the state's
aeronautics agency, and he chaired the state Democratic Executive Committee from
1956-1961. After leaving office, Smith returned to his insurance agency and served as
Secretary-Treasurer for two hospitals. Slightly creased at blank margins and corners. Minor
surface creases (most not evident head-on), one at his forehead and eye. Otherwise, fine
condition.
