Printed Card Signed in Ink: "James B. Edwards". B/w, 5x3 card. Depicts South Carolina's Capitol in Columbia (the state's second capital) with its 180-foot dome, which was completed in 1907 at a cost of approximately $3.45 million. James Burrows Edwards (1927-2014) served as South Carolina's Governor from 1975-1979. Defeating William C. Westmoreland in 1974, he became the state's first Republican Governor since the end of Reconstruction. Edwards, who signed legislation reinstating the death penalty in 1977, had previously served in the state's Senate (1972-1975) and would later serve as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy (1981-1982). Slightly soiled at blank right margin. Fine condition.
