Carolina in 1937, is a former Democratic governor of North Carolina. He
is the only North Carolina governor to serve four terms (1977-1985,

state constitutional amendment that allowed him to run for re-election during
his first term. He previously served as Lieutenant Governor under James
Holshouser from 1973 to 1977. Hunt is particularly concerned with education and
early childhood development. He co-chaired a committee in 1985 that eventually
led to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, and in 1993 he
instituted the Smart Start program, which provides child and health care and
family support for North Carolina's children. Lightly toned and creased.
