JAMES HUNT
Hunt signed this typed letter to Toni Currin on North Carolina Office of the Governor letterhead in 1977, less than a month after beginning his first of four gubernatorial terms.
Typed letter signed "Jim Hunt". 1 page, 8¼x11, on State of North Carolina Office of the Governor letterhead. Jan. 28, 1977. Addressed to Ms. Toni Currin, Dillon, South Carolina. In full: "Dear Ms. Currin: Thank you very much for your letter and your very kind comments. It was thoughtful of you to write, and I greatly appreciate it. My warmest personal regards. Sincerely,". Hunt, born James Baxter Hunt Jr. in Wilson, North Carolina in 1937, is a former Democratic governor of North Carolina. He is the only North Carolina governor to serve four terms (1977-1985, 1993-2001) and the first to serve two consecutive terms; he supported a state constitutional amendment that allowed him to run for re-election during his first term. He previously served as Lieutenant Governor under James Holshouser from 1973 to 1977. Hunt is particularly concerned with education and early childhood development. He co-chaired a committee in 1985 that eventually led to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, and in 1993 he instituted the Smart Start program, which provides child and health care and family support for North Carolina's children. Lightly toned and creased. Light tear on left edge. Light nicks in upper left corner. Folded twice and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
