JAMES R. "JIM" THOMPSON
The longtime Governor of Illinois signed his name in blue ink on this black
and white 5x7 photograph
Inscribed photograph signed: "James R. Thompson," in dark blue ink. B/w, 5x7.
Actual image 4½x6¾ with a white border (one surface). James Robert "Jim"
Thompson Jr. (1936-2020) was the 37th and longest serving Governor of
Illinois, holding office from 1977 to 1991. He also served as a member of the
National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, more
commonly known as the 9/11 Commission. Before he served as Governor, he
garnered praise for his role as a federal prosecutor who cracked down on
government corruption in Illinois. He obtained convictions of numerous
government employees, including former Governor Otto Kerner Jr., Chicago
Alderman Thomas E. Keane, Cook County Clerk Matt Danaher, and many
others. Thankfully, his office was bipartisan, prosecuting Democrats and
Republicans alike. Writing on verso in unknown hand. Otherwise, fine
condition.
