On letterhead of State of West Viriginia, Office of the Secretary of State to Mr. Douglas G. Voegler, Schuyler, Nebraska. In full: "Thank you for your letter of August 25, 1971. Enclosed you will find an autographed picture, which you requested, and also an autographed letter. Thank you again, Mr. Voegler, for your kind compliments and support. Most sincerely". Enclosures not present. With accompanying typed mailing envelope. Not stamped or postmarked. John D. Rockefeller IV (born in 1937), who is commonly known as Jay Rockefeller, is the nephew of Nelson A. Rockefeller and Winthrop Rockefeller. A Democrat, Rockefeller began his political career in the West Virginia House of Delegates (1967-1968) before serving as Secretary of State of West Virginia (1969-1972). Defeated in an gubernatorial bid in 1972, Rockefeller was elected to the post in 1976, and he served as Governor of West Virginia from 1977-1985. Since 1985, Rockefeller has been a U.S. Senator from West Virginia. Lightly creased with folds, not at signature. Four tape stains on verso, light show through at two lines of type (all completely legible) and at upper right and lower blank margins. Overall, fine condition.
