J. HUGO ARONSON
The Montana Governor signs a typed letter responding to a collector. Having been named "Chief after Buffalo" by the Blackfeet Tribe, Aronson writes on stationery honoring the Buffalo.
Typed Letter signed: "J. Hugo Aronson", 1p, 7¼x10½. No place, 1973 October 30. Color illustration at top, captioned: "THE BUFFALO - He ruled the Plains for Centuries." To Danny Franklin, Phoenix, Arizona, in full: "I received your request for an autograph of myself and my wife, Rose, and I am enclosing an article, autographed as requested. [Items not included.] I do not have a picture of Rose that I can think of, except in a book that I have published. You have done a great deal of research on me, and I wish to compliment you on its detail. I would be as interested in hearing about yourself, your age and schooling and future interests in life. Also, how are you coming along on your collection of autographs? The Blackfeet Tribe named me 'Chief after Buffalo' in 1939 and I am using this stationary because of this title! Sincerely". John Hugo Aronson (1891-1978) came to the US from Sweden as a youth. Dropping out of school at age 14, he rode the rails west to Montana, where he worked on ranches and oil fields, interrupted by army service in France during World War I. "The galloping Swede" was first elected to the Montana legislator in 1938. A Republican, he was Governor 1953-1961. Mailing folds. Fine condition.
