GOVERNOR MARK W. WHITE JR.
The Texas Governor signed this typed letter in black ink
Typed Note Signed: "Mark". 7¼x10½. One page. Dated August 12, 1975.
Letterhead from the office of the Texas Secretary of State. In Full: "I will be
happy to sign the 1975 Inaugural Program if you would care to forward it to me./
Best wishes on your class project". Mark W. White Jr. (b. 1940) served as the
Texas secretary of state under Governor Dolph Brisco from 1973 to 1977. He
went on to be Attorney General (1979-1983) and Governor (1983-1987) of
Texas. During his term as Governor, White overhauled the public education
system. He failed to secure a second term partially due to a stringent rule he
put in place: students were not allowed to participate in varsity sports if they
were failing a single course. Lightly toned. Mailing creases. Otherwise, fine
condition.
