Typed letter signed: "Milton J Shapp" as Governor of Pennsylvania in blue ink. 1 page, 8x10½. Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, 1973 December 3. On letterhead of "Commonwealth of Pennsylvania/Office of the Governor" to Mr. Danny Franklin, Phoenix, Arizona. In full: "Thank you very much for your letter of support and good wishes. I am very pleased to send you an autographed picture [not included], which you so kindly requested. I am also enclosing a list of the former living Governors of Pennsylvania [not included]. Since you indicated that you may be visiting Pennsylvania in the future, I am enclosing a tourist guide and an official highway map of the Commonwealth for your convenience [not included]. Pennsylvania indeed has many varied and beautiful sites for the traveler. Best wishes and thank you for taking the time to write and express your support, Sincerely". Enclosures not present. Milton J. Shapp (1912-1994), born Milton Jerrold Shapiro, was the first Jewish Governor of Pennsylvania, serving from 1971-1979. A veteran of WWII and a successful businessman, the Democrat sought the Democratic Presidential nomination in 1976. Lightly creased. Fine condition.
